Talk about a daunting task!
British songbird Emeli Sande was tapped to record a 1920’s version of Beyonce’s mega-hit, “Crazy In Love”, for The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Adding to the pressure of covering such an epic song, Bey’s hubby, Jay-Z, was also the executive producer for the soundtrack.
No biggie, right? Well, that’s exactly how Emeli made it seem, tackling the song in her own way and getting rave reviews for her efforts. “I tried not to think about Beyonce or Jay-Z in my head in the studio … I wasn’t trying to bring anything extra to the pop record, I just wanted to do something very different” the R&B singer told HipHollywood. But, the big question is how did Jay & Bey feel about Sande’s version?
We caught up with Emeli at Wango Tango just before she hit the stage and asked her just that. Find out the answer below.
