Aldis Hodge Almost Hung Up On Dwayne Johnson When He Called About ‘Black Adam’
Aldis Hodge’s dream of starring in a superhero movie has finally come true.
The 36-year-old year actor can next be seen playing Hawk Man in Black Adam opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who called him up personally to tell him he got the part.
His response?
“I almost hung up on him,” said Aldis with a big laugh. “He called me. He’s like, ‘hey, it’s Dwayne Johnson.’ I said, ‘bro, look, stop playing on my phone, because I’m tired of people playing tricks.’ I thought somebody was crank calling me. Somebody had been doing that. So I almost hung up on him.”
Thankfully after some convincing, Johnson was able to prove his identity and let Aldis know he got the part.
“I was like, he’s telling me I didn’t get the job. But he’s like, welcome to Black Adam. And I said, oh, wow. Okay,” he explained. “So, for me, that’s when my mind absolutely froze, because I knew the magnitude of what I was about to step into, and it’s something I’ve been working towards for quite a long time. DJ and I, we talked about that. He’d been pushing this for ten years. I’ve been trying to get in a superhero universe for a while, and we were able to sort of bond on that, which was awesome.”
His co-star Pierce Brosnan who plays Doctor Fate, was equally excited to join the film. He told HipHollywood nabbing a role in a superhero flick was bigger than playing James Bond.
The Dwayne Johnson–starring comic-book adaptation sees him swooping around in a lightning-bolt jumpsuit and bringing explosive action wherever he appears. Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods-and imprisoned just as quickly-Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
The film, which also stars Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell and Marwan Kenzari hits theaters October 21.
