Review: Tom Cruise Is Flying High In ‘Top Gun Maverick’
Director: Joseph Kosinski
Cast: Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Jay Ellis, Greg “Tarzan” Davis, Val Kilmer
The “Top Gun” himself — Tom Cruise — is back in the cockpit in the long awaited sequel Top Gun Maverick. It’s been 36 years since the original soared into theaters but it was definitely worth the wait. Cruise repises his role as Pete “ Maverick” Mitchell who is now tasked with getting 12 new top gun graduates ready for a secret mission. Maverick must also confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.
Pros: Non-stop action, there’s no CGI, and all of the flying sequences seem real because they were. The cast told HipHollywood they had to go through three months of naval training and it paid off.
Cons: One of the things that made Top Gun memorable were all the cheesy one liners, the film has those but not as many. There’s also a beach football scene that’s kind of corny … but ladies will love it.
Emoji Score: 10 out of 10 firecracker emoji’s (because it’s that explosive).
Release Date: May 27th
