Kelis Calls Out Beyonce For Sampling Song Without Permission
Looks like not everyone is excited about Beyonce’s upcoming album release.
Just one day before Beyonce is set to drop her seventh studio album “Renaissance: act 1” fellow songstress Kelis had some things to say about her sampling her work.
Apparently the “Milkshake” singer didn’t know Bey had used one of her songs and found out like everyone else when the track list dropped.
In an IG comment Kelis left using her cooking page account, she wrote:
“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding. I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.”
Apparently Bey sampled the Kelis track “Get Along With You,” on her song “Energy.”
Bey is known for working in secrecy and often doesn’t share any details about her music prior to it being released. This time however, she’s been dropping album art and even revealed a full track list and composer credits.
The Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo — who are the officially credited writers and producers of the original song — are in the writing credits for “Energy,” but not Kelis.
Kelis has spoken out previously about not being properly compensated for her early work with The Neptunes. She said that she does not make any money off her first two albums, which were produced by The Neptunes, and that includes “Get Along With You,” which is on her debut Kaleidoscope.
Bey did list Kelis as a featured artist on the track list for “Energy.”
Still, is she in the wrong or is this a case of misplaced energy (pun intended) on Kelis’ part? Sound off in the comments.
