Pusha T Teams Up With Arby’s For McDonald’s Diss Track
Pusha T may be the first rapper to release a fish sandwich diss track.
The rapper just collaborated with popular fast-food restaurant Arby’s to help promote their new spicy fish sandwich … and he’s taking aim at Arby’s competitor – McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
Pusha and Arby’s commercial, “Spicy Fish Diss,” premiered on Monday. While it’s a playful diss track, it’s also personal for Pusha.
Back in 2003 Pusha and his brother Malice collaborated with Micky D’s and reportedly co-wrote the “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle for the franchise along with Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake.
Apparently the company paid Timberlake $6 million to record the song while The Clipse rappers were paid a one time fee but no royalties for what would become the longest-running marketing campaign in the McDonalds’s 82-year history.
“I did it at a very young age at a very young time in my career where I wasn’t asking for as much money and ownership,” he told Rolling Stone. “It’s something that’s always dug at me later in life like, ‘Dammit, I was a part of this and I should have more stake.’ It was like half a million or a million dollars for me and my brother — but that’s peanuts for as long as that’s been running. I had to get that energy off me, and this [ad] was the perfect way to get that energy like, ‘You know what? I’m over it.’”
So … are ya’ll feeling “Spicy Fish Diss”? We gotta admit we’re loving it.
