The remarks marked the rapper’s first public comments about the calamity since he issued a carefully worded statement Saturday morning.
“I just want to send out prayers to the ones that was lost last night,” the rapper said.
“We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help them through this tough time.”
Scott addressed criticism that he continued with his performance as fans surged in the deadly stampede, and others yelled “stop the show.”
“Anytime I could make out, you know, anything that’s going on, you know I stop the show and, you know, help them get the help they need. I could just never imagine the severity of the situation,” the rapper said on his Instagram story.
“I’m honestly just devastated and I could never image anything like this just happening,” Scott continued, as he pledged his support to local authorities investigating the disaster.
Kylie Jenner also spoke out regarding the incident and defended Scott. Jenner who is expecting her second child with the Houston-bred MC was in attendance at the NRG Stadium Friday with the couple’s 3-year-old daughter Stormi.

The remainder of the festival was canceled following Friday’s fatalities. Meanwhile law enforcement say they tried to warn Scott about dangerous crowd energy ahead of the show.
Police Chief Troy Finner said the “energy” in anticipation of the festival had been escalating for months. The Chief attributed the energy to the pandemic, the fact that tickets went for hundreds of dollars and the event itself had a history of crowds that were difficult to control.
