Gabrielle Union Cop Drama ‘L.A.’s Finest’ Premiere Pushed To Later Date

It looks like Spectrum is saying “F–k 12” … or at least for now. The network announced that season 2 of L.A.’s Finest has been pushed to a later date.

The cop drama starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba was slated to premiere on Monday June 6. Deadline announced Monday morning that the cable network was making the eleventh hour decision amid the ongoing protests against police brutality and racism following the death of George Floyd.

The move follows moves by AMC to pull this past weekend’s episodes of Live PD, and Paramount Network’s decision to cancel police series Cops.

Season one of the series followed Syd Burnett (Union), who was last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel. She leaves her complicated past to become an LAPD detective. Her new partner, Nancy McKenna (Alba), is a working mom with an equally complex history. Taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles while skirting the rules, and speed limits, Syd and Nancy became a force to be reckoned with – on the streets, and in each other’s lives.

Union nor Alba have responded to news regarding the premiere push back. Both have been extremely vocal about the death of Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. They have also spoken out about the death of Breonna Taylor — the 27-year-old EMT killed by cops in Louisville, Kentucky.

Union and Alba are also executive produces of the series alongside 2.0’s Doug Belgrad, JBTV’s Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed, as well as Jeff Gaspin and Jeff Morrone.

Back in May, Fox announced that it would begin airing season 1 of the series as part of it’s Monday night line-up starting this Fall. No word if those plans will shift given the current controversy surrounding police and policing in the U.S.

The series found a home at Spectrum last year after NBC backed out of a deal for show. Sony Pictures TV also inked a deal with Canadian broadcast company Bell Media to air the series in 2018.
