Teyonah Parris And John Boyega Couldn’t Stop Laughing With Jamie Foxx
The laughs were non-stop on the set of They Cloned Tyrone. According to stars John Boyega and Teyonah Parris, co-star Jamie Foxx had everyone in stitches, but we aren’t surprised.
The multi-hyphenate comedian and actor has always had a knack for bringing the laughs. HipHollywood sat down with Parris and Boyega plus director Juel Taylor and producer Charles King (ahead of the writers strike) about shooting the film and laughing out loud thanks to Jamie.
“I broke a couple of times and I think one of my breaks is actually in the film. I couldn’t hold it together,” admits Parris of one hilarious scene in the elevator with Foxx.
In the film a series of eerie events thrusts an unlikely trio (John Boyega, Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris) onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy in this mystery caper.
Foxx plays Slick Charles a fast-talking pimp who is always complaining about the ungrateful, unreliable women he’s exploiting including Parris’ wisecracking Yo-Yo.
“He would ad-lib lines in between and I was like, please give me the good stuff,” said Taylor, who makes his feature directing debut with his own co-written script. “Don’t be scared. Throw whatever you want in there. It’s going to make sense. And he has so many tricks up his sleeve to pull things out of scenes. And he always knows when and where it’s supposed to go.”
Boyega says it was a dream working opposite Foxx, but also playing a character like Fontaine.
“I get excited when a character starts off one way. By the end of the movie, you have someone completely kind of changed, in a sense and ‘They Cloned Tyrone’, just gave us all of that and more.”
Added Parris, “I’ve been a part of this or known about it for five years now. So the fact that it’s finally coming out and the world is going to see it is so special and so exciting. But we had a good, good time.”
The film also stars David Alan Grier, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Tamberla Perry, Eric Robinson Jr. with Kiefer Sutherland.
They Cloned Tyrone drops July 21 only on Netflix.
