Tom Holland Tackles Trauma and Mental Health In ‘The Crowded Room’
According to Tom Holland The Crowded Room, is “hardest thing” he’s ever done.
The British actor, best known for playing Spider-Man in the Marvel; Cinematic Universe (MCU), leads the new series, which is an adaptation of Daniel Keyes’ 1981 novel The Minds of Billy Milligan.
Holland, who stars in the series alongside Amanda Seyfried Emmy Rossum and Sasha Lane, plays Danny Sullivan, a man who is arrested for his involvement in a shooting in 1979.
He chatted with HipHollywood about taking on the role after wrapping Spiderman.
“I wouldn’t say I was in great shape because I hadn’t done any weight training, he admitted. “I was the skinniest I think I’ve been, and I really struggle when I’m not able to train like that. But I was fit, though. I was running a lot.”
The 27-year-old also opened up about playing the high school teen who suffers from mental health issues.
“It was definitely an education for me. Learning about how trauma can trigger certain mental health issues was huge learning curve,” he explained. “I’m really proud of what the show represents. You know, we’re sort of exploring the powers of the human mind and how it can help you survive, but how it can also destroy you. And I really hope that this show can shed some light onto an issue that we should really be talking about.”
The 10-part psychological thriller is now streaming on Apple TV+.
