Priyanka Chopra Jonas Said Nick Jonas Was Happy To Play Douchebag In ‘Love Again’
Priyanka Chopra Jones is a grieving woman looking for love in the new romantic comedy Love Again.
In the film (now in theaters), Chopra Jonas plays an artist named Mira who is grieving the death of her fiancé. Two years after an accident causes his tragic death, she finally decides to try dating again. Her first attempt at using a dating app to find love again however fails miserably. Enter her real-life hubby Nick Jonas … Yep you read that right.
The singer-turned-actor plays an obnoxious personal trainer whose date with Mira turns out to be a disaster. Chopra Jonas told HipHollywood she had to do some convincing to get her husband to take the role, but is super grateful he said yes.
“It was actually awesome that he did that part because we were filming during COVID. This is 2020 and we would have had to cast a random actor to lick my face.” she explained. “He was so excited to play the douchebag. He was like, this is how the douchebag walks. This is how he’s going to talk.”
But while Chopra Jonas got to film with her hubby, Heugan got to work with music legend Celine Dion … well kinda. Due to COVID restrictions Dion couldn’t fly to the U.K so had to film her scenes solo in Canada.
“We shot during the pandemic, and it was obviously very difficult for people to travel at the time, so we did shoot a lot of it on sound stages and on green screen,” Heughan told EW. “That was one of the challenges of working during the pandemic.”
Thanks to the magic of editing you don’t even notice in the final product. Heughan still counts himself lucky to be on-screen with Dion who makes her acting debut in the film.
“We were very, very lucky that she chose us to make her acting debut and also allow us to have five of her original tracks,” he said. “So, honestly, I challenge anyone to go and see the movie and not become a huge Celine fan, if you’re not already.”
In the film, Heughan plays Rob a journalist who Mira unknowingly sends text messages to, thinking she’s texting her deceased fiancé. Rob becomes captivated by the honesty of her words in the beautifully constructed texts. When he’s assigned to write a profile of superstar Celine Dion, he enlists her help to figure out how to meet Mira in person — and win her heart.
“I said yes to this movie because I read the script in one go when it came to me,” said Chopra Jonas. “And plus, I have never seen Indian female leads in romantic comedies. I love romantic comedies .. and this is exactly that.”
“And on top of that,” she continues, “You have a soundtrack done by Celine Dion. There was just too many reasons to do this movie.”
