Erica Campbell Goes From First Lady To Pastor In ‘Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story’
Lifetime, T.D. Jakes and Shaun Robinson continue their wildly popular “Seven Deadly Sins” series with Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story starring Grammy-Award winner Stephanie Mills, Nephew Tommy, Keeya King and Grammy-Award winner Erica Campbell.
HipHollywood caught up with Campbell about reuniting with Stephanie Mills and working with T.D. Jakes.
“No one says no to Bishop Jakes,” jokes Campbell who plays Pastor Trey. “To be able to be apart of a film like this, especially with a subject and topic like this, I think is really cool because pride is so prevalent and there’s a fine line between confidence and pride. But the scripture says pride comes before a fall. We don’t want the fall.”
Campbell admitted playing a Pastor wasn’t that much of a stretch considering her husband Warren Campbell is one in real life.
“I’m not a pastor, but I am a First Lady, and I know what it feels like to get involved in the messy parts of people’s lives,” explains Campbell. “So it wasn’t that much of a stretch.”
In the film, things get real messy for Mills who plays reality TV star Birdie Moore. To salvage her legacy, the successful bakery owner must let go her of pride before family secrets come to light and her empire crumbles.
Campbell says audience will be blown away by Mills’ performance and was so excited to work with her after opening for her on tour some years ago.
“I had seen her so many times but never had the pleasure of working with her. So this was really, really cool. And then the director at the end of the scene, he said, can you sing something? And so I was like, okay.”
She added, “I had to catch myself like, I’m singing with Stephanie Mills. Oh, my God. And we had to do it a few times to get it and make sure that it was right because I’m a perfectionist. But it was such a sweet moment and I can’t wait for people to experience it, it literally was an impromptu moment.”
