New Video Of DaBaby Shooting Man In Wal-Mart Undercuts Self-Defense Claim
DaBaby’s claim of self-defense, when he shot and killed Jaylin Craig in a Wal-Mart in 2018, is now being called into question.
Rolling Stone just released never-before-seen security footage of the fatal November 2018 incident.
DaBaby has always claimed that he was approached by two men who threatened him with a gun while he was shopping with his then-partner and their children and acted in self-defense out of fear. The new footage however appears to show DaBaby, real name Jonathan Kirk, throwing the first punch.
The man who was punched, Henry Douglas, told police a scuffle broke out after DaBaby sucker-punched him. He said his best friend Jaylin Craig was the one who tried to break-up the fight when DaBaby pulled out his gun and shot him.
Rolling Stone reports that “officials later determined, based on the security footage, witness testimony, and a weapon found near Craig’s body, that Craig had a gun on him, but it’s inconclusive if Craig was brandishing the gun as he approached the two men.”
In June 2019, DaBaby was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon and sentenced to 12 months’ probation with a suspended jail sentence. He was never prosecuted for Craig’s death.
Craig’s mother, LaWanda Horsley, told Rolling Stone of the investigation,“[Kirk] knows what he did. I’m not doing this for no fame or anything, because at the end of the day, Jaylin Craig is gone.”
She also hopes publicly sharing will prompt an independent investigation into how the case was handled, and hopefully end with Kirk being charged with homicide.
On Sunday, following release of the Rolling Stone footage, DaBaby posted this on Instagram.

A few days earlier, he was involved in a fight with his artist Wisdom. On April 13 the “Masterpiece” rapper also admitted to non-fatally shooting a trespasser on his property.
