Ashanti Opens Up About Recent Encounter With Ex-BF Nelly

Ashanti is making major moves!

The singer / songwriter just revealed she officially owns her masters and is planning on re-recording her self-titled debut album, Ashanti, which was originally released in 2003. Ashanti shared the big news during an interview on the Tamron Hall show.

She also reflected on her 20+ years in the business and getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame next year.

“I got my first record deal when I was 14,” she shared. “So understanding and seeing how things have changed so much from then to now and conceptually understanding what you’re signing is imperative, it’s so important nowadays.”

The album included hit tracks, “Happy”, “Baby” and “Foolish.” Ashanti also won a Grammy in 2003 for Best Contemporary R&B Album.

Hall also made sure to ask her about her head-turning look at Fat Joe’s birthday bash and her recent run-in with her ex-boyfriend Nelly.

Ashanti hit the stage for the Ja Rule and Fat Joe Verzuz Battle at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater on Sept. 14. Nelly was also on stage to perform with Fat Joe and at one point made his way over to his former flame for a hug.

“When I saw him kind of coming across the stage, I was just like, ‘Oh…’ and it was so weird because we haven’t seen or spoken to each other for over six years… so it was a weird feeling,” she said. “So it had been so long, I didn’t know how to feel or what I was going to feel when I actually did see him. So, that’s what it was like.”

She also said she’s not angry at her ex and it was all love.
