Billy Crystal Handpicked Tiffany Haddish For New Movie “Here Today”
Tiffany Haddish’s infamous white dress strikes again.
You know the one, the Alexander McQueen halter gown that she wore to the Academy Awards, the MTV Movie Awards and while hosting Saturday Night Live … yep that one. Well after wearing the $4,000 gown on SNL it caught the attention of comedic veteran Billy Crystal who decided to cast her in his new film Here Today.
“I saw her on SNL when she hosted,” Crystal told HipHollywood. “I said who is this? Because I had not seen ‘Girls Trip’ and there she is in that white gown, dancing, singing, charming, dangerous and fearless, with that great smile. She was Emma.”
In the film, Crystal plays comedy writer Charlie Burnz who meets New York singer Emma Payge (Haddish), and they form an unlikely yet hilarious and touching friendship that kicks the generation gap aside and redefines the meaning of love and trust.
Haddish told us she said yes because the story was just that good, and she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work with Crystal.
“I said yes because it’s Billy, it’s someone I always wanted to work with, and the script was so well written,” she explained. “Billy was trying to pitch it to me and I was like I don’t know why you’re talking because I’m doing it, it’s done, it’s in the can, we’re at the Oscars.”
Haddish also joked that she left the white gown at home for her first meeting with Crystal and instead arrived on set (straight from a trip from Africa) donning an afro.
“I took my braids out the day before and I was like should I press my hair,” she explained. “Then I was like I’m wearing an afro and natural face, he’s going to see the real Tiffany.”
Here Today is in theaters May 7.
