Will Smith Is Considering A Career … In Politics
Will Smith has already mastered the music, film and TV industries, but he could add politics to the list. During an interview on “Pod Save America” he said he’s thinking about running for political office in the future.
“I think for now I’ll let that office get cleaned up a little bit and then I’ll consider that at some point down the line,” he confessed. “I absolutely have an opinion, I’m optimistic, I’m hopeful, I believe in understanding between people and I believe in the possibility of harmony. I will certainly do my part, whether it remains artistic or, at some point, ventures into the political arena.”
In the meantime Smith is focused on his new Netflix series “Amend: The Fight for America”. The six-episode docuseries creates an in-depth conversation about the fight for equal rights in the US through the lens of the 14th Amendment. Smith said he he became interested in the 14th Amendment following the death of George Floyd.
The 52-year-old also got personal talking about racism and being called the N-word “five or six times.”
“Fortunately for my psyche, I’ve never been called N-word by a smart person. So I grew up with the impression that racists and racism are stupid and they are easy to get around, I just had to be smarter,” he shared.
We’re not mad at Smith getting into politics … he does have some film commitments to tend to before then. The movie mega star will next be seen playing Venus and Serena Williams’ father in the upcoming film King Richard.
He’s also slated to reprise his role as Mike Lowry in Bad Boys 4.
