Sorry Folks Anthony Mackie Isn’t Going To Be Captain America …
Marvel fans have been eagerly waiting to find out who is going to become Captain America after the surprising Avengers:Endgame ending … and well … it doesn’t look like it’s going to be Anthony Mackie.
Despite passing his shield over to Falcon, played by Mackie, at the end of the film, Chris Evans is reportedly in talks to reprise his role. According to Deadline Evans is in talks to return as Cap in future projects in some capacity.
Meanwhile, Mackie, whose set to star in the upcoming Disney + series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, told HipHollywood he got in the best shape of his life for his role in the Netflix film Outside the Wire.
“We shot this right before we went into Falcon Winter Soldier, so I was in like pre Falcon shape,” he explained. “But this was different because of the staccato nature of being a cyborg human being, so I was doing a lot of jiu jitsu, a lot of grappling, a lot of yoga.”
In the film Mackie plays a next-generation biotech prototype who has requested help from a drone pilot (Damson Idris) to thwart insurgents seeking nuclear weapons in Eastern Europe.
Idris, who’s found major popularity playing a drug dealer on Fx’s Snowfall, told us he jumped at the chance to do something more physical.
“I just wanted to be in an action movie,” he confessed with a big grin. “I’ve never been in an action movie so I just wanted to do that, and after doing this movie, it’s definitely something I look forward to doing for the rest of my career.”
And we also get the feeling he’d like to play James Bond in the near future, when asked what he’s binging these days he told us the spy series Lupin on Netflix.
“Omar Sy did his thing … it absolutely lets you know Black people can be spies too, wink, wink,” he said with a smirk.
You can see Anthony Mackie and Damson Idris in Outside the Wire on Netflix now.
