Taraji P. Henson Reveals Her Engagement Has Ended

The love affair between Taraji P. Henson and Kelvin Hayden is no longer. Henson opened up about the end of their engagement revealing that she even suggested therapy to resolve their conflicts. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough.

Over the years, Taraji has become a vocal supporter for mental health awareness. The actress even has a new talk show coming to Facebook Watch, tentatively titled Piece of Mind with Taraji, that will focus on the challenging mental health issues that those within the Black community face. Henson, alongside her co-host and best friend, Tracie Jade Jenkins, hit up The Breakfast Club to talk about their new show, and when asked by Charlemagne how women should deal with “trama-filled men”, that’s when Taraji opened up about her own experiences — namely the demise of her relationship with Hayden.

“I’m dedicated to the Black man y’all. I just turned 50 and … I haven’t said it yet but it didn’t work out. And I tried — I was like therapy, let’s do the therapy thing, but if you’re both not on the same page with that then you feel like you’re taking it on yourself and that’s not a fair position for anybody to play in a relationship.”

The “What Men Want” star also stressed the importance of not losing yourself in trying to be supportive of someone’s journey through their trauma. “When one person is taking on all of the weight of the relationship is not going to work. You have to show up, and yes you want to be understanding, but you can’t lose yourself in that … you have to still stand-up for yourself and be there for yourself.”

Kelvin has yet to comment on the end of their relationship. The two had been rumored to be dating for a number of years before the former NFL player popped the question in May 2018. When we spoke to Henson about wedding plans just last year, the actress was excited about an understated and simple affair.

Although it didn’t work out we wish both of them the best on their individual journeys.
