Zendaya Makes History, Regina King Gets Her Flowers … The BEST Parts Of The 2020 Emmy Awards
It was Black Folks Magic all up and through the 2020 Emmy Awards on Sunday! Even though there was no red carpet or in person applause, the show still went on (virtually, of course) and it was a momentous occasion for some of our faves.
Out of the 18 acting awards handed out at the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, 9 of them went to Black actors … NINE! And here’s a few of those amazing artist who took home the gold.
ZENDAYA MAKES HISTORY
Zendaya took home the lead drama actress win for HBO’s “Euphoria” and in the process became only the second Black woman to ever win in the category — the first was Viola Davis in 2015. And at 24-years-old, Z also became the youngest ever best actress in a drama series winner!
REGINA KING RECOGNIZED FOR GREATNESS
With her win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie category, this makes four impressive Primetime Emmy wins for Ms. Regina King. Oh, and she gets major point for putting the spotlight on Breonna Taylor during her acceptance speech.
UZO ADUBA SHINES
Uzo took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. And just like Regina, Aduba also took the opportunity to say Breonna Taylor’s name.
YAHYA ABDUL-MATEEN II CONTINUES “WATCHMEN” SUCCESS
Regina wasn’t the only one from the “Watchmen” to bring home the gold, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role on the critically-acclaimed show.
TYLER PERRY INSPIRES
TP may have won the 2020 Governors Award, but it was inspirational acceptance speech that was the real winner of the night.
