Why Erykah Badu Will Be Helping Teyana Taylor Give Birth…
It was so nice, Teyana Taylor wants to do it twice! The first time around, TT gave birth to her baby girl Junie (unexpectedly) at home. Now, she says she wants to do it again, with one major difference — Erykah Badu will be in the building!
So, why have a Baduizm birth? Taylor told Nick Cannon on his radio show that EB will help “calm” her:
“Even though the Junie [daughter] story is crazy, it kind of put me in the comfort zone where I don’t know if I want to go to the hospital for this next baby. I’m going to make sure it’s not on the toilet or the bathroom floor. I’m just going to do a home birth and I’m actually going to be doing it with Erykah. They’re going to deliver my baby. I’m going to have her sing her verse from ‘Lowkey’ to me so I can be calm.”
For reference, “Lowkey” is a song on Teyana’s recent project The Album which Erykah is featured on…
Badu became a midwife and doula years ago after helping her friend through a natural childbirth. In an interview with PitchFork in 2005, the “Next Lifetime” singer explained how assisting women in this way is so fulfilling:
“I became a doula by default. I had [son] Seven naturally, at home, and a couple of years later I was traveling through Europe, and one of my best friends, Afya, who is the wife of stic.man from dead prez, went into labor. I naturally knew what to do, and it was then that I figured out that this was something I can do that makes me so fulfilled.”
Sounds like Teyana is in for a soothing experience — minus all the childbirth pain. Taylor and hubby, Iman Shumpert, are expecting their second daughter later this year!
