Could Mike Tyson Be Gearing Up For A Career In Pro Wrestling?
Mike Tyson may be gearing up for a return to the ring, but not the boxing ring. For weeks the Heavyweight Champion has been posting his workouts on social media and even proclaimed in one post “I’m Back”.
Now we may now why he’s getting into fighting shape. Last Saturday Iron Mike appeared on the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) DOUBLE OR NOTHING Championship fight on pay-per-view. Tyson was there to present the championship belt to the winner and made his grand entrance carrying the belt on his shoulder. He also had a quick stand-off with Jake “The Snake” Roberts before ripping off his shirt to show off his toned physique.
Now he’s returning to the ring for AEW DYNAMITE on TNT on Wednesday night. It’s not clear what Tyson will do this time, but it’s being speculated that the 53-year-old could be joining the AEW full-time.
If that’s the case it would explain why he recently turned down $20 million from Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship for a match. Tyson told T.I. on his “Expeditiously” podcast that he’d like to compete again … but for charity.
“I’ve been working out, I’ve been trying to get in the ring, I think I’m going to box some exhibitions and get in shape,” Tyson said. “I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box three- or four-round exhibitions for some charities and stuff.”
If Tyson does join the AEW, it will by no means be his first appearance in pro-wrestling. He had been a large part of the culture around the sport since the late 90s, when he refereed a Wrestlemania match. He had even made notable appearances in the ring sporadically. Most notable was one where he famously knocked out Chris Jericho with his patented right hook.
