R. Kelly Tries To Pull A Tekashi69 … Judge Denies Plea For Release
R. Kelly was trying to pull a Tekashi69 and get released from jail due to the coronavirus … but he failed.
According to a court order the singer will have to remain behind bars. On Tuesday Judge Ann Donnelly denied his motion for bail because Kelly failed to prove why he’s truly at risk for contracting the virus. He’s also considered a flight risk and danger to witnesses in his sexual assault trial.
Kelly’s legal team argued that his jail in Chicago is a “filthy breeding ground” for the coronavirus and the lack of cleaning and sanitary conditions inside the facility suggest that it’s only a matter of time before Kelly would become infected. Kelly also stated that he hasn’t been able to meet with his legal team to prepare for his July trial.
Kelly is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago and awaits trial for federal sex crime charges. He also faces charges in New York on forced labor, kidnapping, racketeering and sexual exploitation of a child. In August 2019, Kelly pleaded not guilty to the federal charges.
Kelly joins a growing list of incarcerated celebs trying to be released due to COVID- 19. Bill Cosby’s legal team is trying to have him placed on house arrest. Meanwhile rapper YNW Melly tested positive for coronavirus. He now claims he’s on the verge of dying due to conditions inside a florida facility where he’s housed and is asking for an early release.
As previously reported rap star Tekashi 6ix9ine was released last week due to the coronavirus. The rap star has asthma and a judge decided he was at high risk for contracting the virus. He will finish the last four months of his two year term on house arrest.
