Deitrick Haddon Wants T.D. Jakes To Join “Preachers Of L.A.” Reboot
Getcha popcorn ready, Preachers Of L.A. could be returning to TV. Deitrick Haddon told HipHollywood exclusively that he is trying to bring back the popular reality TV series.
“I’ve been at every network the last couple of weeks and they are trying to reboot Preachers, so fingers crossed …but there is nothing solidified right now,” he explained.
The show which starred Haddon, Pastor Wayne Chaney, Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Clarence McClendon and Pastor Ron Gibson ran for 2 seasons on Oxygen. When asked which pastors he’d like to see cast this time around he told us he’d still like for Bishop T.D. Jakes to take part despite his disparaging comments about the show.
“I think reality TV is the best platform for preachers, because we are supposed to be real right? So I still think it’s the best opportunity,” he said.
If you recall Jakes slammed the Oxygen reality show calling it “junk” during a sermon at his Potter House Church in Dallas.
“Now I know you’ve been watching that junk on TV and I want to tell you right now, not one dime of what you’re sowing right now will buy my suit. I want you to know my car is paid for, I want you to know I got my house on my own. I have sold enough books and produced enough movies I don’t need your offering to pay for this little slimy suit. I am not from L.A., I’m from Dallas.”
When HipHollywood had Haddon in studio a few months later the gospel singer clapped back at Jakes and other mega pastors who criticized the show.
“Open up your doors T.D. Jakes, open up your doors Creflo Dollar, open up your doors Bishop Morton … y’all real people, you want people to hear you preaching and talking every Sunday? They have the right to know the real you,” he said during our sit-down in 2015.
Reflecting on that interview Haddon said he never meant to attack Jakes or anyone else and extended an apology.
“How awesome would it be if you got those leaders of the Christian movement, I just think it would be awesome. But I didn’t mean to attack anyone, so please forgive me all you great men of God I love you,” he said.
We’re crossing our fingers Haddon gets this show greenlit and Jakes does join. In the meantime we’re patiently waiting on the release of his new album T.I.M.E. coming out March 13. We’ll be posting part 2 of our interview with Haddon Friday.
