Cynthia Erivo And Janelle Monae Sang Their D@mn Faces Off At The Oscars!
Look, we may not of had many nominees at this year’s Academy Awards, but with the visibility we did have, we did the d@mn thing with it. Case in point, Janelle Monae and Cynthia Erivo bring the house down in their electrifying performances.
First, Monae opened the show by covering some of the year’s biggest films in song. She gave us Mr. Rogers steez, there was a nod to the Joker, Billy Porter showed up for a duet, and Janelle even made the audience join in … and that’s just a fraction of what happened during her 6-miniute show. Just take a look…
And, as if that wasn’t enough Black Girl Magic, Cynthia stood her regal self in one spot on the Oscars stage and showed TF out! Belting from the bottom of her soul, Erivo sang her Oscar nominated original song “Stand Up” from Harriet. Cynthia’s soulful performance, alongside an infectious choir, brought the house down and made the celebs stand to their feet with a well-deserved ovation.
Unfortunately, neither of the Harriet stars walked away with an Oscar, but they definitely stole the show.
