The 90’s cop drama, New York Undercover is coming back, folks! According to Deadline, ABC has closed a deal for a pilot production commitment for a new incarnation of Dick Wolf’s 1994 cop drama series.
Wolf and Kevin Arkadie created the show and it aired on Fox for four seasons, between 1994-98. It starred Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo as two undercover detectives in New York City’s Fourth Precinct, and was the first police drama on American television to feature two people of color in the starring roles.
Since its abrupt departure, fans and the cast have been calling for its return, with the exception of Luna Lauren Velez. HipHollywood caught up with the actress, who played Det. Nina Moreno, and got her two cents on a reboot.
If you watched the show then you remember that Velez joined the show in Season 2 . She and Eddie played cat and mouse for a bit before getting married. Then, she became a widow at the end of Season 3 when Eddie was blown up, and presumably killed, in a car bombing.
A cast has not been announced. But, per Deadline, the reboot will likely include a whole new cast of characters. We can’t imagine them not sprinkling in a cameo or two from the original cast, especially since, in real life at least, they’re all alive. We can be sure, though, that Velez isn’t going to be one of those.
