“When they go low, we go high!” Michelle Obama’s famous words have been used over and over again to calm tensions and anger when discussing Donald Trump and his administration. But, thankfully, our forever FLOTUS is showing us she can still get low, like Southside Chicago low, when it comes down to it.
With the release of her memoir, Becoming, right around the corner, Mrs. Obama has shared a few advanced copies with some very lucky members of the press — one of which the Washington Post. In sharing excerpts from the highly anticipated book, we’ve gone through and cherrypicked the good stuff you have to know! And you know good and well that includes how she really feels about the Donald.
‘Chelle Can “Never Forgive” Trump
For Michelle, going “high” doesn’t mean she’s a sucker, it means she’s deftly skilled at being cordial and cunning at the same time. We applaud her! While she had to smile in Trump’s face during the end of the Obama-Era in the White House, she secretly, like the rest of us, despised the hell out of him.
“The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed. But it was also dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks,” she writes. “What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.”
Motherhood For Michelle Didn’t Come Easy
Mrs. Obama gets very candid in discussing her journey to motherhood. The usually private First Lady opens up in Becoming sharing that she experienced miscarriages when trying to conceive Malia and Sasha. The couple eventually turned to IVF to have their daughters, but much of that journey was done without Barack. “She did a great deal of this while her husband was away serving in the state legislature, leaving her to administer the shots that are a part of that process herself,” The Post writes.
At One Point, The Haters Got To Michelle
We’re all human, but some of us, like Michelle, seem superhuman when it comes to the amount of strength and perseverance they possess. However, it is refreshing to hear, that for a moment, just a moment, even Michelle let her naysayers put a dent in her feelings.
“If I’d learned anything from the ugliness of the campaign, from the myriad of ways people had sought to write me off as angry or unbecoming, it was that public judgment sweeps in to fill any void. . . . I knew that I would never allow myself to get that banged up again.”
“Becoming” will be available Tuesday, November 13th — but, don’t wait til the last minute. Pre-order now!
