Denzel Washington already has a pair of Oscars to his name, and now it looks like he’s pouring that same type of energy into ensuring the next generation of Black actors hits the Academy Awards stage as well!
As Washington took on the role of reprising his Robert McCall character in Equalizer 2, he subsequently took on the role of mentors as well — on screen and off. In the film, McCall takes a young boy named Miles, played by Ashton Sanders of Moonlight fame, under his wing and off the streets. The role was a true full circle moment for Sanders, who we introduced to Washington just last year during the SAG Awards red carpet. The two exchanged pleasantries, and Ashton proclaimed, “I might be doing a movie with you soon,” to which Denzel responded, “I’ll see you at work.” And the rest is history…
See Ashton relive that fateful moment and also hear how Ta-Nehisi Coates’ acclaimed autobiographical work, Between the World and Me inspired Denzel’s character in Equalizer 2, which is in theaters now!
