In her first interview since taking a hiatus in December to work on her album Nicki gets very emotional talking about Cardi B.
While the “Bodak Yellow” singer has been saying the rivalry between her and Nicki was fan-made, Nicki told Zane Lowe in a live interview for Beats 1 Radio the rumor actually has some legs.
After premiering her new singles “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz”songs, Zane Lowe asked Nicki about a leaked snippet with lyrics that appear to be aimed at Cardi. Nicki said that it’s not about Cardi and that she wrote the song a year-and-a-half ago.
But … she does have an issue with Cardi. According to Minaj it all stems from a song they did with Migos, “MotorSport,” which was originally a collaboration with just Quavo and Nicki. Later, after the rest of the Migos were added, she says Quavo texted her asking if Cardi could also have a verse on it, which Minaj says she approved (and still has the receipts to prove it).
However, that’s not the story she says Cardi or Migos told after the fact. “When it was time to clear the air about that, no one did that. All of them allowed me to look like I lied.”
When the story hit the media and people thought she was lying and shading Cardi, Nicki asked Quavo to come out and back her up. Nicki’s voice quivered a little while revealing his hurtful response:
“I still have his texts. He said ‘I would go on Twitter and back you up if you were my girl, LOL’ and that hurt. I thought of him as my baby. I think of all of them as my babies.”
“[Quavo] said ‘I’m not going to go on Twitter and address that sh*t,” she continued. “If I do an interview, then I’ll address it.’ It hurt my feelings to see people sit by and watch me be slaughtered and not say anything. They thought it was entertaining to watch Nicki look like the bad guy.”
Nicki also says it hurt her to hear Cardi angrily talking about her in her first interview after ‘Motorsport” came out.
“The first interview [Cardi] did after ‘MotorSport’ came out, it just really hurt me, because she looked so aggravated and angry, and the only thing she kept saying was, ‘I didn’t hear that, she changed her verse.'”
Cardi’s interview on Beats 1 last week is when she finally felt the genuine love from the “Bodak Yellow” rapper.
“I never felt [genuine love] from her until then. There’s so many other girls who wished they could have been on a song with Nicki Minaj, she said getting emotional once again. “Not being cocky. Then the first thing out of your mouth when somebody asked you about a Nicki feature is she changed her verse. It’s because of the Nicki-hate parade that just felt the comfortability to address me in that manner.”
