Who knew you could fall in love with a 1,000 lbs. Albino Silverback Gorilla that ravages a metropolitan city? But, eh, that’s exactly what happens with George the gorilla in Rampage.
The film, based on the popular ’80s video game of the same name, follows a primatologist named David Okoye, played by Johnson, as he tries to save Chicago from his primate bestie when a rogue genetic experiment turns the gentle giant into a monster of mass destruction. It’s a hectic, adrenaline-pumping, action-packed thrill ride propelled by a gorilla that none of the actors could see while shooting their scenes. It’s pretty incredible, as director Brad Peyton explained, an actor named Jason Liles actually played opposite the stars of the film and spent a year study gorillas in order to bring George to life.
And while our love of George knows no bounds, Dr. Kate Caldwell, played by Naomie Harris, truly stole our hearts! The super smart, and super beautiful, genetic engineer isn’t just some docile sidekick; she’s really a superhero of sorts, and the one who helps Okoye save the day.
Rampage roars into theaters April 13th.
