Mo’Nique and Charlamagne tha God went head to head on Friday morning over Mo recently being named “Donkey of the Day,” an offense the comedienne is not happy about.
During the near 50-minute interview, the two battled over DoD and the $500k Netflix deal the comedienne turned down.
First and foremost, the reason the famous radio host gave the label to Mo’Nique was because she “used racial and gender bias, which are actual real issues, but you are using to focus on something that you are dealing with individually.”
Charlamagne drove home the point that Netflix bases their deals off of recent standup tours and concerts etc. So he raised the question to Mo’Nique: Why did you feel you deserved that much?
Mo’s husband, Sidney Hicks, chimed in and suggested, in so many words, that business was initially handled inappropriately. The conversation then turned into it coming down to gender and racial inequality.
Angela Yee then brought up an amazing point that many women of color, including Ava DuVernay and Shonda Rhimes, have picked up multi million dollar deals.
Mo, however, was specific about female comedians. “We got to speak about the sisters that’s done it,” she said. “When Wanda Sykes is number 70 on comedy central’s top comedians ever, but they offer 200K. What do you say to that?”
Charlamagne fired back by suggesting he spoke with Neftilx and was told that the streaming service “offered that deal to Wanda Sykes before this guy that does these stand up deals got into the position.”
The full interview was a ping pong match of Mo making a case that she’s a legend with a lengthy and successful resume and Charlamagne hitting back with facts.
Trust us. Watch.
