Being Mary Jane, one of BET’s hit drama series, has been canceled.

The show is officially coming to an end, but instead of launching into a Season 5, the network will air a two hour movie which will serve as the series finale. The news of the program ending comes just three weeks after the airing of the Season 4 finale.

Union addressed the cancellation by penning a sweet letter to “Every Fan of Being Mary Jane.”

“We have all worked so tirelessly to bring you a show that we could be proud to be a part of. Mary Jane has become my favorite character. We’ve screwed up together, laughed together, evolved together, and raised hell together. I love all her imperfections, and through playing her I became more forgiving of others who are imperfect and on the journey of self discovery and improvement,” she wrote.

The letter continued, “We watched her struggle with relationships with both men and women, and we watched her finally start to get her shit together. But the journey isn’t over yet. We, as a Being Mary Jane family, cannot wait to bring you this final 2 hour series finale movie that will answer all your questions about each and every character.”

She added, “More than anything, however, we want to thank you with every fiber of our being for faithfully watching the show and supporting our work… from the actors, writers, producers, directors and enormous crew over the years, we are humbled and we remain grateful. Thank you!”

The news also comes nearly one year after Union sued the network for breach of contract.

In the lawsuit, obtained by HipHollywood, Singer claims that BET agreed to never produce more than 13 episodes per season of their hit show, Being Mary Jane, but now, executives are trying to combine Seasons 4 and 5 to get as much out of Union as possible.

Per the documents, the network was trying to tape two 10-episode seasons back to back to “cram all of the episodes into a single season in order to fraudulently extend the term of Ms. Union’s contract.”

And while Union might be wrapping up the series, she will be busy with other major projects. Earlier this year, it was announced that the actress will star in and produce new home invasion drama, Breaking In. Union will work alongside Will Packer for the project.
