Serena Williams is women’s empowerment personified, we all know that. But the tennis champ is catching some heat for implying that being a “real woman” only comes after having a baby.

During an interview with Vanity Fair Williams shared her thoughts on impending motherhood. “I have so much respect for so many women [for giving birth],” the superstar stated. “I am about to be a real woman now, you know? It’s going to be something incredibly impressive to go through.”

Of course, the Twitter trolls came out in full force to throw a petty party…

Those feigning outrage should have continued to read. The sports phenom, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Alexis Ohanian, also went on to say, “I don’t think watching birthing videos helps. I actually think it makes it worse. Having a baby, nothing is guaranteed,” she told the magazine. “That’s the scariest thing. [But] I think [giving birth] will give me more strength, if that’s possible, and a lot more confidence. I feel like I will be ready for anything.”

How about we just congratulate Serena for being a bad a** woman and leave it at that!

It was Mrs. Hart’s first red carpet since giving birth to the couple’s first child, Kenzo Kash, just three weeks ago. To say it was a snapback is an understatement. The 30-year-old, who worked out during her entire pregnancy, look sexy and svelt in a elegant black number while her superstar hubby hit the carpet in a black suit with white trim.

Although the couple faced some bumps in the road earlier this year with Kev being extorted over a video showing him cheating on his wife, the couple has bounced back. And on Tuesday night’s jungle-themed red carpet Hart told HipHollywood, “My wife is just an amazing woman … I would not be me right now without that woman in my life.”

You can see Kev, alongside Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jack Black and more, when “Jumani: Welcome To The Jungle” hits theaters on December 20th.
