Just because you’re in your 70s doesn’t mean you can’t be messy, shady and petty. Actually it means you SHOULD be messy, shady and petty. You got time for that.

And speaking of time, Aretha Franklin let a bitter feud fester for five years before confronting Dionne Warwick over something she apparently “lied” about.

Let’s set the scene. It was February 2012 and the legendary Whitney Houston was being laid to rest. While speaking to the large crowd of funeral-goers, Ms. Warwick announced that Aretha was in the building and would like to say a few words. Unbeknownst to her, ‘Retha wasn’t there. Dionne realized her blunder and stated, “‘Ree’s not here, but she is here,” Warwick said, referring to Franklin by a nickname. “She loves Whitney as if she were born to her. She is her godmother.” Aretha was not Whitney’s godmother. Aretha was pissed! In a phone interview with the Associated Press, the soul singer stated, “She blatantly lied on me … fully well knowing what she was doing.”

Franklin didn’t do anything at the time, but she put a pin in the situation and planned to handle it later. “There’s been so much going on around her [Houston], around the service, around the drugs, around her and Bobby [Brown] supposed to be fighting, I didn’t want to add anything to that and I didn’t want to be a part of that,” she told AP. Fast-forward to 2017, a whole five years later, and ‘Retha is ready!

She has sent Dionne and her people a lengthy fax (FAX!!! hahahaha) addressing what she claimed was a “libelous” statement.

“She said, ‘Give me a hug.’ I said, ‘Oh, hell no. You couldn’t be serious,'” Franklin said.

When asked if she wanted an apology from Warwick, she said: “I don’t care about her apology; at this point it isn’t about an apology, it’s about libel.”

She added: “We’ve never been friends and I don’t think that Dionne has ever liked me.”

AP received this comment from Warwick’s representative, Angelo Ellerbee: “She will not dignify a response to the statement made by Aretha Franklin.”

Shots fired.

While Pink took her career to new heights leaping off the side of a building while performing her hit single “Beautiful Trauma.”
