Shinning! Michelle Obama Wrote Yara Shahidi’s College Recommendation Letter
This isn’t just shinning, this is shinning on a whole ‘nother level!
Black-ish star Yara Shahidi just scored the recommendation letter of a lifetime from our forever FLOTUS! That’s right, the 17-year-old actress has the stamp of approval from Mrs. Obama.
During an interview with W magazine, Shahidi revealed that the former First Lady was one of her biggest cheerleaders. “She is very amazing and such a supporter, which is something very surreal to say,” Yara told mag.
Shahidi has yet to choose her place of higher education but has applied to several universities including Harvard … which is where Obama received her Law degree and where daughter Malia will be going after deferring a year. Yara also told W that she plans to defer a year as well. But when she does begin school she wants to double major in African-American studies and Sociology.
“I know when Malia Obama announced [she was deferring], she got a lot of slack, but I feel like what’s interesting is I know so many people that are deferring,” she told the site. “It’s more than to just roam around or just sit down and stare at a wall, but it will also give me an opportunity to work. I’ve been working more than half of my life and that’s always been balanced with school and all of the other responsibilities, so to have a year to focus on work and to focus on specified interests will be nice before I pick a career and choose what I want to study and my life path.”
