UPDATE: Turns out the press release written by the Charlotte Independence confirming Randy Moss’ contract with the team was a an April Fools joke. According to the team, “It was Randy’s idea, and we ran with it. It was in preparation for our season opener on Saturday.” Yeeeeaahhhh, they got us!

The team certainly went all in, with quotes from Moss and the coach.

Randy Moss just couldn’t do what most retired athletes do — sit back, blow money and kick in for some charities. Instead, he decided to get back in a pair of cleats. But this time for a new sport.

Moss is one of the greatest NFL players and receivers of all time, and now, the athlete is trying his luck at soccer. The 40-year-old just signed a deal with the United Soccer League’s Charlotte Independence.

According to reports, Randy, most known for his time spent with he Minnesota Vikings, signed on the dotted line just one day before the team opened up their season against the Charleston Battery.

“Renewing my career is something that I’ve thought about for a long time now,” Moss said. “I’m excited to get started with the Charlotte Independence and show the world that I can be a two-sport athlete.”

While running up and down the green field, Moss will even sport his same iconic number: 84. Randy retired from the NFL following his 2012 season with the San Francisco 49ers.

Moss isn’t the only professional athlete to swap sports after an impressive career. Here are five others.

Michael Jordan: MJ will and always be the greatest NBA players of all time. But in 1993, following the tragic death of his father, the Chicago Bulls superstar announced his retirement from the league. Shortly after announcing his retirement, the athlete signed a deal with the MLB. The man once known to dunk over everyone, hopped over to the Chicago White Sox. But nearly one season later, in March 1995, MJ decided to return to the NBA.

Marion Jones: Marion Jones was a track and field world champion who, in 2000, was forced to end her career on the track after admitting to steroid use. The athlete, who was involved in the infamous BALCO scandal, later picked up a career with the WNBA. In 2010, she played with the Tulsa Shock. One year later, on July 21, 2011, she was let go.

Jerry Rice: Jerry Rice, another legendary NFL player, retired from the NFL to pick up … golfing. In 2010, five years after retiring from the NFL, Rice played in the French Express Classic. Unfortunately, he did terrible. Seriously, his ranking was abysmal. The same man who still holds the NFL record for most touchdowns, finished 151st out of 152 in the classic and golfed a 17-over. Needless to say, he never played pro again.

Becky With The Bad Braids: Meghan McCain + 8 Other Epic Braid Fails

Published

on

White folks rocking corn rows and braids is nothing knew, but Meghan McCain’s recent hair do while on The View had us shaking our heads.

Besides the fact that it’s Black History Month and they should put a pause on the cultural appropriation, it was just a bad look on Meghan. The Republican co-host (or her stylist) thought it was a good idea to put three cornrows in hair with a super teased pompadour in the middle section.  And to make matters worse the braids were chunky at the top and super thin towards the end. Sigh.

Clearly this was not a black hair dresser because if it were they would have at least added some hair. Instead they had Meghan out here looking like a character from Game of Thrones. Or maybe that’s what they were going for. Either way it’s a no for us dawg.

It was also a no for us when Christina Aguilera decided to get dirty and rock “medusa” braids to the World Music Awards in 2001.

Then sometime in the 2000s Fergie thought being apart of the Black Eye Peas gave her a pass to wear corn rows.

Kevin Federline also thought since his baby mama (Shar Jackson) was black he could walk around looking an NBA player. Deep sigh.

Melanie Griffin looked a hot damn mess rocking braids with beads and foil on the ends in 2000.

Ke$ha made us cringe in these colorful braids with knots the size of our knuckles.

Kim Kardashian also had us screaming girl bye when she first attempted to rock braids like Bo Derek.

Lena Dunham tried it with these pitiful plaits during her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

And Coco almost got a pass until she decided to call her braids the “Coco swoop”.
