Is Postpartum Depression To Blame For Chrissy Teigen’s Oscars Catnap?
Chrissy Teigen made headlines during the 2017 Academy Awards after cameras captured the Sports Illustrated model taking a quick nap on her husband, John Legend’s shoulder.
Chrissy, per the usual, took the barrage of Twitter comments and playfully joked about her Oscars shut-eye, tweeting hours later: “Just woke up what happened?” But now, there might be an explanation behind Teigen’s mood during the annual awards show.
In the upcoming March issue of Glamour magazine, Teigen pens an open letter about her battle with postpartum depression. According to the 31-year-old, after giving birth to her first child last April, she was different.
Not only was the model in constant pain, “My lower back throbbed; my shoulders — even my wrists — hurt,” but she was constantly tired and lethargic.
“Most days were spent on the exact same spot on the couch and rarely would I muster up the energy to make it upstairs for bed,” she writes. “John would sleep on the couch with me, sometimes four nights in a row. I started keeping robes and comfy clothes in the pantry so I wouldn’t have to go upstairs when John went to work. There was a lot of spontaneous crying.”
Finally agreeing to go see a doctor, Chrissy immediately realized what was going on. She explains, “My doctor pulled out a book and started listing symptoms. And I was like, ‘Yep, yep, yep.’ I got my diagnosis: postpartum depression and anxiety. (The anxiety explains some of my physical symptoms.)”
She admits now, however, that “physically, I still don’t have the energy for a lot of things, but a lot of new moms deal with this. Just crawling around with Luna can be hard. My back pain has gotten better, but my hands and wrists sill hurt.”
It’s worth noting that Chrissy’s nap could have also simply been because, whelp, the show was boring.
