The terminally ill high school student whose last wish was to meet Beyonce has passed away.
Ebony Banks lost her battle to cancer on Sunday, just four days after meeting the Queen Bey by way of FaceTime.
The teen’s school, Alief Hastings High School, confirmed the news on Twitter. On Sunday night, following news of Ebony’s passing, the school’s band held a candlelight vigil to remember the late teen.
The Houston native made headlines last week after her dreams of meeting the Queen Bey came to fruition. Although she couldn’t physically touch the singer, Ebony had a chance to look Beyonce in the eyes and have a conversation.
During the special moment, Beyonce told Ebony: “I love you.”
Banks, who was a senior, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, which had progressed to stage 4. She spent the majority of her senior year in and out of the hospital.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Banks’ friends and family.
