Amar’e Stoudemire Would Avoid Gay Players In Locker Room … No Matter What It Takes
Amar’e Stoudemire is making headlines this morning after suggesting he would avoid gay teammates at all cost.
During an interview with Israeli website Walla Sport, the former NBA player suggested he would “shower across the street” to avoid gay players in the lockers. Furthermore, he would “make sure my change of clothes are around the corner.”
He added, “And I’m going to drive — take a different route to the gym.”
When asked if his comments were simply witticism, the athlete suggested, “I mean, there’s always a truth within a joke.”
This is not the first time Stoudemire has shown prejudice against the gay community. In 2012, during his offseason with the New York Knicks, he was fined $50,000 for tweeting a gay slur to a Twitter user.
Amar’e is currently playing for Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli Premier League.
