While former President Barack Obama has been living it up on the privately-owned Necker Island, his eldest daughter Malia has been spending her post White House life chillaxin in the Big Apple.

The 18-year-old was photographed on Wednesday looking cool, casual and free while walking the streets of Manhattan. The former First Daughter was captured exiting a black SUV with effortless hair, three layers and a pair of boots — a far departure from her usual First Daughter swag.

It hasn’t even been a full month since the Obama’s left the White House, and our former Commander-in-Chief is already taking up major actives, including kitesurfing. Earlier this week, Barack was photographed taking on the sport with Virgin Group founder Richard Bronson.

Bronson wrote about teaching Barack the activity: “The sport has really taken off in the past decade and we have the perfect conditions and team to help anyone learn. I have also wanted to learn foilboard surfing. So we decided to set up a friendly challenge: could Barack learn to kitesurf before I learned to foilboard? We agreed to have a final day battle to see who could stay up the longest.”

And yes, Obama not only accepted the challenge, but was also victorious: “We were neck and neck until the last run on the last day, when I got up on the foilboard and screamed along for over 50 metres, three feet above the water. I was feeling very pleased with myself, only to look over and see Barack go 100 metres on his kiteboard! I had to doff my cap to him and celebrate his victory.”
