This has undoubtedly been a season of Black excellence! With several diverse films and filmmakers receiving Academy Awards nods, Ebony Magazine and iTunes Movies decided that the theme for their 2nd annual pre-Oscars gala would be “Celebrating The Storytellers”!

In true celebratory fashion, the swanky event was held at Delilah in West Hollywood on Thursday and HipHollywood was on the carpet to talk to the night’s honorees and attendees.

Director Raoul Peck, who is nominated for the James Baldwin documentary I Am Not Your Negro, said that, for him, Baldwin’s work was life-changing. Another honoree and Oscar hopeful, Manchester By the Sea producer Kimberly Steward, said she was focused on not only pushing for more African-American representation but focusing on advancements for women of color. Steward is also only the second Black female producer, after Oprah, to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

Check out our interviews below and make sure you catch the big show when the Oscars air Sunday, February 26th on ABC.
