Emma Stone Calls B.S. On Oscar Blunder: I Was Actually Holding My Best Actress Card!
Emma Stone is setting the record straight about that epic Oscar snafu on Sunday night.
During the show, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway presented the award for Best Picture and accidentally announced that La La Land was the winner. Two minutes later, it was revealed that Moonlight was actually the winner and Beatty told the audience that he was given a card that read “Emma Stone – La La Land.”
Stone, however, refuted that claim during her backstage interview.
“I was actually holding my best actress in a leading role card that entire time,” she said. “So, whatever story that was, I don’t mean to start stuff but I have that card, so I’m not sure what happened, but I wanted to talk to you guys first.”
Stone also said she and her La La Land cast are happy Moonlight won Best Picture. “I’m so excited for Moonlight and of course and it was an amazing thing to hear La La Land, I think we would have all liked to win Best Picture, but we are so excited for Moonlight.”
