Insecure’s Issa Rae is incredibly talented, gorgeous, sweet, kind and … loves to rock her natural hair.

The beauty has become known for her ever evolving styles with her perfectly textured, God given locks. So who is behind the fun looks that we see on red carpets, HBO and most recently, the Golden Globes? Celebrity hairstylist, Felicia Leatherwood.

According to Leatherwood, regularly working with Rae is not only an absolute treat, but her hair is equally a treat. “Issa’s like the perfect client. Her hair melts in my hands,” she told HipHollywood exclusively. “Her hair loves me, I love her hair. We have a relationship.”

She added, “I get to create on her and she’s just so wonderful and easy. She trusts me.”

So what’s the process when it comes to getting red carpet ready? Per the celeb stylist, it’s a collaborative effort. “I keep an arsenal of hairstyles and what I do is embellish it,” Leatherwood explained. “It will always depend on what she’s wearing.”

According to the Los Angeles native, she often gets asked: “How in the hell am I making all these hairstyles at her length.” Her answer: “Shrinkage.”

Felicia is also the hairstylist to director Ava DuVernay, who was just nominated for an Academy Award for her documentary, 13th.
