A sad, yet unsurprising, turn of events in the case of Joe McKnight’s murder.
McKnight’s life was taken abruptly by what seems to be a road rage incident that turned deadly. A 54-year-old white male named Ronald Gasser admitted to shooting the former NFL player, but the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred in the New Orleans suburb of Terrytown Thursday afternoon, are unclear. Gasser was taken into custody for questioning, but has been released and no charges have yet been filed, according to officials from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department.
Witnesses say they saw McKnight, who played for both the NY Jets and Kansas City Chiefs during his four years in the NFL, and Gasser involved in an altercation at an intersection. Both individuals were standing outside their vehicles when McKnight was shot.
Unfortunately, this sounds like another “stand your ground” incident. Prayers up to McKnight’s family as the investigation is still ongoing.
