Martin Lawrence’s ex-wife, Shamicka Lawrence, can relate all too well to what Kim Kardashian and the West family went through following Kanye West’s recent hospitalization.

Shamicka first started dating Martin in 1997, one year after the actor was arrested and hospitalized for running down Ventura Blvd., screaming and brandishing a gun.

In 1999, well into the pair’s relationship, the comedian lapsed into a three-day coma after collapsing from heat exhaustion while jogging in hot weather, wearing a nylon tracksuit and a wool cap.

Years later, the comedian admitted that drugs and the pressures of Hollywood caused his bizarre behavior. While drugs may not have been the cause of Kanye West’s recent psychotic break, Shamicka has the perfect advice for the rapper.

While on the red carpet for the EBONY Power 100 Gala, HipHollywood caught up with the former Hollywood Exes star to get her thoughts on West’s latest meltdown. “He needs to get his rest. A lot of times, a lot of the celebrities, Black men especially, there’s so much going on, so much pressure on them, they tend to keep going and going.”

She added, “A lot of that is just pressure, the added pressure upon pressure of being a Black man. Just rest and start enjoying who you are, and stop giving out so much and give back to yourself.”

West, who reportedly suffered a “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration,” is currently receiving outpatient treatment at home. His wife, Kim Kardashian, has remained right by his side.

‘Annihilation’s’ Leading Ladies Use Intense Military Training As Bonding Experience

Annihilation is one hell of a visually stunning sci-fi film with five female leads on an expedition to uncover the mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline.

For Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and Gina Rodriguez, the film, which also lends a voice to what is being called the year of the woman, dressing in head to toe military gear and going through tactical training was a bonding experience.

“”t was really fun. It’s weird to say that. But to have all these women in military training together, where we had to do these exercises … it was a great bonding experience with each other.” Portman told us.

And although the women had the opportunity to use real guns, firearms is not something the ladies of Hollywood advocate. “I’m anti gun to be honest,” Rodriguez said. “I say no guns. There’s no reason for people to have guns especially when you have these,” she said while holding up her firsts.

This past week Gina has been very vocal via social media about gun legislation and the idea behind policy and change following the tragic high school massacre an Parkland, Florida.
Annihilation, also starring Oscar Isaac, hits theaters on February 23.
