If you tuned in for Sunday night’s MTV VMAs, your jaw still might be on the ground from the moment Drake professed his love for Rihanna.
The rapper presented the singer with the coveted Video Vanguard Award and literally made folks lose every ounce of cool after he admitted how much he loved his collaborator.
“The first time I met Robyn Fenty was in 2005,” he said. “The song was Pon de Replay and the director of the video was Little X. I was introduced to her as the kid who played background music at the restaurant as people ate at their dinner. It’s hard to believe that 11 years later all three of us would come together to create the visual for a song called Work.”
He continued, “Today the world knows Little X as Director X, they know me as Drake and not the kid singing as you order pasta. But 11 years later they still all know Rihanna as the one and only Rihanna.”
And then … he dropped the bombshell. “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old.”
Insert screams and hands covering every mouth in the venue.
But wait, it’s not over. When the Canadian rapper went to hand RiRi the award, he appeared to have gone in for a smack on the lips, but it looked like Ri turned her head, resulting in an awkward embrace ending with a kiss on the cheek.
Following the awards show, Drizzy even shared a selfie with him kissing the 28-year-old on the cheek. The caption read:
“This is a night for us all to be thankful for what you have done for us! You have affected so many of our lives in the best way possible. Tonight we celebrate you!”
Over the past several months, rumors have run rampant regarding the pair’s apparent romantic relationship, but neither party has confirmed the possible courtship.
Meghan Markle Is Headed Back To The Small Screen…Kinda
Meghan Markle may have left USA’s Suits after seven seasons, but the actress’ likeness will be making it’s way back to a TV very soon. Lifetime has announced that it’s planning a film based on Markle and her soon to be husband, Prince Harry’s whirlwind romance.
The cable network, known for it’s biopics, made the announcement on Sunday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
“And before the wedding of the year takes place between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Lifetime will debut a movie revealing how the stars aligned for this royal romance,” said Lifetime’s head of programming Liz Gateley.
Harry & Meghan: The Royal Love Story (working title) will trace Prince Harry and Markle’s relationship from the day they met to the overwhelming media attention surrounding their eventual engagement, which was announced in November. It will also touch on their courtship after they were set up by mutual friends and depict Markle’s life as a divorced American actress.
Menhaj Huda, who helmed an episode of E!’s fictional Royal Family series The Royals is on hand to direct. Casting is currently underway.
No official date has been announced, but given Lifetime’s track record, fans should expect the movie to release a few days before the couples May 19 wedding. Back in 2011, Lifetime aired William & Kate: The Movie just days before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge married on April 29.
