If you follow Idris Elba on social media then you know he’s been hitting the gym, and a bean bag pretty hard lately. But it’s not for a new movie role. The 43-year-old actor has been getting into fighting shape for a new docu-series where he will transform into a professional kickboxer. According to Deadline:
The actor and producer is buffing up for Idris Elba: Fighter, a limited series that will extend the Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee’s relationship with Discovery Networks International following their collaboration on racing program No Limits. The three-part hourlong factual will see Elba undertake the physically and mentally demanding task of training to become a professional kickboxer — ultimately competing against a seasoned brawler in a no-holds-barred bout.
“It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally,” said the Golden Globe and SAG Award winner. “Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time.”
Elba has been posting videos of his training on his Instagram account, and also showed off his toned physique Sunday morning in this sexy snap. “Cutting weight two days before first fight,” he said flexing his bicep, and chiseled abs. “Mind in the right place. Fear NO guy.”
The series which is being shot on location in the UK, Cuba, Japan, South Africa and Thailand, is slated to begin airing in early 2017.
