If you’re think Key & Peele’s new comedy flick Keanu is all about a gangster cat, think again! HipHollywood caught up with the films stars and writers, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, about the film and its many messages.

“It is a buddy comedy, it is more than just a movie about a cat,” explained Peele. “It’s about two cousins who put that put themselves in harms and act hard to get through it, and there’s romance it, it’s a real movie.”

A real movie that also raises real questions about what it means to be tough in the African American community. “It’s important to us that we show that the African American experience is not a monolith. That we show that toughness is different for everybody, explained Key. “It’s tough to be a family man, it’s also tough to be a drug kin. There’s a big spectrum between those two things.”

And joining the guys to tell this hilarious story are comedians Will Forte and Tiffany Haddish, as well as Nia Long and Jason Mitchell, who actually shot Keanu before Straight Outta Compton, and was a little intimidated. Check out what he and Long had to say about flexing their comedy chops in the video above.

Keanu hits theaters April 29.

Will also snapped some fun flicks with his son Jaden before greeting fans and speaking with reporters including HipHollywood.

He told HipHollywood that he was super excited to reunite with his Suicide Squad director David Ayer for the film, and would “work with him whenever he wants to.

“I love his madness how he creates,” gushes Smith. “How he thinks about scenes, the way he works with actors, it’s some of the best psychological work of any director I’ve ever worked with.”

In the film Smith plays an LAPD cop in a mythical world of orcs, elves and fairies … and Ayer told us, he couldn’t think of anyone better for the role.

“We had such a good time on Suicide Squad together and this role is kind of perfect for him, it’s an edgy movie, buts it’s funny. He’s got the best sense of humor of anybody I know.”

BRIGHT debuts on Netflix December 22. Peep the newest trailer below.
