Drake Dishes On Nicki Minaj Beef & Jay Z Being Cut From ‘Views’
Between being label mates and creating epic music together, Drake and Nicki Minaj have always had a very tight relationship. But what happened to the pair?
Drake released his album Views on Thursday and fans were shocked to hear no collaborations between the Canadian rapper and Trinidadian beauty.
During an interview with Beats 1 radio host Zane Lowe, Drizzy admitted that he and the female emcee have not been on speaking terms since the big Twitter feud between he and Nicki’s boyfriend, Meek Mill. “I don’t really talk to Nicki. She’s another person I have a lot of love for, a lot of respect to her and the past and what we built,” he said.
The rapper continued, “I understand what love is and I understand a personal situation. She dealt with me how I would expect her to: with class. I would do the same you know. There were times I was sitting there, waiting to see, you know, how deep is your love? I have respect for Nicki but unfortunately we haven’t spoken.”
Nicki might not have made the LP cut, but one star who did: Rihanna.
Badgalriri and Drake have been making headlines lately for what appears to be the rekindling of a romantic relationship. On Views, Ri is featured on a track titled “Too Good,” a song with a similar vibe to the collabos other track, “Work.”
“It wouldn’t be a record without Rihanna, would it? … The music we make and energy between us is genuine,” Drake told Zane. But as for his rumored fling with Ri, the Toronto rapper kept mum.
As what happened to Jay Z?
The rapper was initially added to Drizzy’s track “Pop Style” for a quick verse, but Beyonce’s husband wound up being cut from the album. “Really I just was trying to get Ye on it at first,” Drake told Zane. “And Ye just sent it to me like that: ‘Yo, Jay kind of just did my first few lines for me, and he was just here and that’s how we flexed it.’
Drake continued, “It was cool you know and he was all excited about it like, ‘Yo, just put ‘The Throne’ on it, it’ll be a crazy moment.’”
“I’ve expressed my admiration and respect for Jay countless times,” Drizzy said. “That will never change. Sometimes we just fall on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the rap world. It’s always just mutual respect, but sometimes it has to be from afar do to other situations that don’t have anything to do with me and him.”
Kanye, by the way, is featured on the album out now.
