Gloria Govan Romance May Have Cost Derek Fisher His Coaching Job
Ousted New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher might still have a job this morning if he had not slept with his former teammate’s estranged wife. Sports writer Adrian Wojnarowski claims that Fischer lost a lot of respect in the Knicks locker room after his players learned about the tryst with Gloria Govan. The reality TV star is the wife of current NBA forward, Matt Barnes.
Sources tell HipHollywood that the men got into a physical altercation last year after Barnes learned of the secret romance. That incident caused Fisher to miss a day of training camp. “That October weekend odyssey was Fisher’s choice, and the blame for it all – including the failure to return to New York in time to conduct a Knicks practice – belongs to him,” Adrian writes.
“To fly to California and visit a girlfriend in the middle of the New York Knicks’ training camp – engaging Matt Barnes in a Tom-and-Jerry tussle-and-chase – cost Derek Fisher dearly. Fisher lost the moral high ground inside Madison Square Garden, lost a measure of gravitas as a leader of men,” the journalist continues.
Fisher was relieved of his coaching duties on Monday, replaced by interim head coach, Kurt Rambis. As for Barnes, after news of the firing broke, he posted this image on Instagram.
