The family of Natalie Cole confirmed in a statement on Thursday the late singer’s cause of death.

According to a statement obtained by the Associated Press, the iconic singer and multi Grammy Award winner died of “idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension,” which ultimately led to heart failure.

“(Cole) responded well to pulmonary arterial hypertension-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts world-wide,” the statement read. “But eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder.”

Cole, who canceled her New Years Eve performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall due to health issue, sadly died on New Years Eve at the age of 65.
