Kendrick Lamar and President Barack Obama have become good ol’ pals. In fact, Lamar can officially say he and the nation’s leader go way back like four flats on a Cadillac all thanks to a recent sit down in the Oval Office.
Lamar and Obama recently had a heart to heart about several topics, including the mentorship of youth in inner cities.
In a new video promoting the Pay It Forward mentoring program, Kendrick explains how he “sat down with President Barack Obama and shared the same views. Topics concerning the inner cities, the problems, the solutions, and furthermore embracing the youth, both being aware that mentoring saves lives.”
“I look at where I’m at today and realize that most of my success is owed to the mentors that was in my life,” the rapper shares.
The meeting between Kendrick and Obama was long overdue considering what a fan the President is of the Compton rapper. It was previously revealed that the 54-year-old’s favorite song is “How Much a Dollar Cost.”
During a recent interview with BuzzFeed, the President’s Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett said Kendrick was a “little nervous” but Obama managed to calm his nerves by telling him “Can you believe that we’re both sitting in this Oval Office?”
Needless to say, the rapper couldn’t have been more thrilled with his meeting. On Monday, the rapper shared a photo of he and Obama with the caption:
